Dance Technique for Poms

POMS

This class is designed to prepare students for High School Poms. An emphasis on Jumps, Leaps, Big Pom, Marching and competition choreography will be taught. Sneakers must be worn.

ADVANCED POMS

Push yourself to your limits and reach your POM goals! This class will go beyond the traditional POM technique. Students will be introduced to “Flying Saucers,” “Fouette a la second” (or Open-Second), “Barrel Turns,” “Turning Tilt Jumps,” and more!

MINI POMS

This class is designed to prepare future pom team members! Students will learn a variety of dance styles while learning basic pom techniques.

Modern

A free form style of dance which incorporates the use of the floor as the primary movement. Modern dance technique focuses on the sternum, the core, and the breathing of the dancer. This class is highly recommended for students who wish to enhance their technical background. Class attire: TBA.

Street Jazz

A combination of Hip Hop and Jazz, this class brings ‘Video’ style dance to the classroom.  Students will begin with a warm up and stretch combination before moving into the latest moves of a choreographed dance. Sneakers must be worn.

Hip Hop / House

HIP HOP

This Hip Hop class will explore the different types of street style movement. Students will have the chance to learn fun and challenging Dance combinations to the songs of today’s top artists while incorporating fast footwork and cutting-edge style. Sneakers must be worn.

HOUSE

House dancing is a style of Hip Hop that began in nightclubs as an improvisational form of Hip Hop and has now evolved into a style of Hip Hop that is studied and taught in the dance studio setting. The technique includes footwork, jacking, and lofting and uses “House” music.

Combo Classes

Our combo classes offer a combination of ballet, tap and Hip Hop in different variations, allowing parent and child to choose what techniques they wish to expose the young dancer to. During this early stage, the development of strength, flexibility and coordination is focused upon. The development of rhythm, coordination, and timing are also focused upon. Dance terminology is presented while dance steps are combined to music.

Turns and Leaps

This class gives students an introduction to the proper technique of jazz/ballet turns and leaps. Technique includes outside and inside turns, calypso, turning “C”, fouette turns, leaps, switch leaps, and switch open.

Lyrical / Contemporary

Lyrical/Contemporary dancing is a combination of ballet, jazz, and modern. Dancers focus on technique, expression of emotion through music, floor-work, lifts, partnering, and spatial progressions.

Classical Ballet

Includes traditional barre and center work designed to build a beautiful, graceful, and healthy body with fine posture and poise. With sufficient study of ballet, proper technique and a strong body, a dancer may advance to Pointe work.

Our goal at Impact is to provide our students with innovative and fun classes with fantastic choreography. Our instructors focus on proper technique in every class. By offering exceptional dance instruction with over 45 different classes weekly in our 7,000-square foot state-of-the art facility, we have established ourselves as the dance place for Poms, Hip Hop, House, Ballet and more in the Gaithersburg area. Our instructors come from all realms of the dance world – from the San Francisco Ballet and the Las Vegas Civic Ballet to dance faculty at Montgomery College and more. Whether you’re a beginner or an established dancer, Impact is sure to offer just the right class for you!
